Chaos Has a Pattern
Have you ever looked at your life and wondered, Why does chaos keep finding me?
Sometimes chaos comes from the outside—addiction, family dysfunction, conflict, loss, financial problems, or someone else’s choices. Sometimes it comes from within—fear, resentment, shame, anxiety, or our desperate attempts to control what we cannot control.
And sometimes, if we’re honest, we participate in the pattern.
Chaos often has a pattern: crisis, reaction, overreaction, cleanup, temporary peace…and then another crisis.
Recovery taught me that I don’t have to participate in every storm around me.
The Twelve Steps remind us to look at what is ours and let go of what isn’t. Therapy teaches us to regulate before we react. Faith reminds us that we don’t have to have all the answers. And grit teaches us to keep doing the next right thing even when we cannot control the outcome.
One of my favorite Scriptures for chaotic seasons is 2 Chronicles 20:12:
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
What if that could become our response to chaos?
I don’t know what to do—but my eyes are on God. I am going to "big picture it."
I can pause. Pray. Take inventory. Set a boundary. Ask for help. Let go. And take the next right step.
Chaos may have a pattern. But chaos does not have to be your pattern.
That’s part of what it means to become Unhooked and Unbroken and to live a life moving forward, rooted in peace, wisdom and strength.
I wish you well,
Annie
